Of course, this little group would not be complete without at least one “in your face” kind of pink, because, well, it is spring, after all. I stayed as far from those kinds of colors as possible, for a very long time. Without a doubt, I felt the same way about red lipstick. There was just something loud and intimidating about them. These days I love how easy it is to change things up, just by switching to a bright lip color. You don’t really have to do much else, maybe other than a touch of blush to balance things out.
L’Oreal definitely makes some of my favorite drugstore lip products. Their Colour Riche Matte Lipcolour lipsticks have an amazing, very comfortable formula with a creamy matte finish. I wouldn’t say that the finish is completely matte, as it does have a bit of creaminess to it. I love the scent of these lipsticks, the shade range is pretty nice and I’ve been using Matte-Moiselle Pink all the time lately. It’s a perfect pinky mauve, “your lips but better” kind of shade that’s great to wear to the office. Probably not as long-lasting as some of my favorite high-end lipsticks, but my FAVORITE primer does help it stay on for much longer.
We already touched on the subject of hard-to-pull-off reds, but Glossier’s Generation G lipstick in Zip is definitely anything but. It’s a bright red but it’s not intimidating at all; it has a lip balm-like formula with a sheer matte finish. It’s a perfect lip color for an “everyday” kind of wear.
Another spring favorite from L’Oreal: Rouge Signature Lightweight Matte Colored Ink in I Rule. The applicator is very similar to my other drugstore favorite, Maybelline’s Superstay Matte Ink liquid lipsticks. These aren’t as pigmented as Matte Ink, but they’re just as long-lasting and have that same, beautiful matte finish and satin-smooth formula. I Rule is a little similar to Matte-Moiselle Pink, but it’s a little deeper with a stronger touch of mauve.
Charlotte Tilbury’s Hot Lips lipstick in Miranda May is one of my favorite spring colors. It’s a delicate, bright coral pink with a matte finish. I’ve tried a lot of pink + coral lipsticks and some of them aren’t easy for me to pull off. Miranda May has a perfect combo of pink and pale orange that works nicely with my fair skin and it’s a perfect warm-weather shade. Of course, the formula is very lightweight and glides on easily, as with most of their lipsticks.
I already talked about this old favorite from Dior in my latest Lovin’ Lately post. The Lip Maximizer in Beige is perfect for those no/minimal makeup days. I love the subtle tingle and plumping effect this gives. It was my first “lip plumping” kind of product and I always come back to it.
Also loving a good shimmery lip topper. My two most-loved ones look very similar at a first glance, but the formulas are quite different- Pixi x Chloe Morello Lip Icing in Cake (which was LE, you can still find it here; they also have different shades for sale) and Jouer’s Long-Wear Lip Topper in Skinny Dip. I usually use them either on top of a nude lipstick or pair them with a lip balm.
I prefer the Pixi formula as it feels a lot more comfortable when worn just on its own and is quite hydrating. It almost feels like a hydrating lip treatment, sort of a hybrid of a gel and oil. Skinny Dip has a more tacky formula and it can be difficult to apply it in a way where there’s just a small product payoff. It can end up looking too glittery and frosty. Pixi’s Cake Lip Icing, on the other hand, can be very easily layered, it adds just a beautiful, delicate shimmer that doesn’t look like chunky glitter. It’s just a very beautiful product that adds an unreal kind of glow, especially when the light hits it. Really wish a photo could do it justice!
More mauve, yup. Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in Thicc is a deep, dusty-rose pink with a satin finish. It has a creamy formula, doesn’t tug or feel drying throughout the day. It’s very pigmented, long-lasting and slightly hydrating.
Maybelline’s Superstay Matte Ink liquid lipsticks are among some of the best I’ve used. I love everything from the applicator to the color payoff and staying power. The formula really is very impressive and lasts all day long. My two favorite shades are Romantic– which is a beautiful, bright pink that really brings out blue eyes and kind of screams “spring!” and Lover, a natural berry pink. Romantic is the only bright pink I’ve been reaching for this spring, I just love its formula so much.
